I personally believe the reason Ayaka tomie became so cold and estranged from her sister and didnt even remember stuff was because he was enjected with tomies dna as a kid. ayaka herself isn't inherently a tomie, but once she reached the age tomie is presumed to be (15-18) the tomie dna takes over morphing her into another full blown tomie and that includes taking over her mind

I was kinda hoping that since you talked about a couple alternative outfits that you’d cover Rex and Weevil’s designs for season 2 onward. But you only talked about the season 1 designs, how would you feel about their later designs, especially since Weevil has a completely different outfit?

The questions they should've asked when writing these movies are "If cars had human intelligence, how would they function as a society? How would their means of culture, communication, way of living, etc differ from humans?". But instead, they just took an approximation of human society and put a Car coat of paint on it. It's maybe one of the clearest examples of lazy worldbuilding I've ever seen. I understand why, because the worldbuilding isn't the focus but that doesn't make it any better.

I always read Tomie as being a virus or organism that preys on humans to spread. Like those parasites that drive their host to be careless so that the host get eaten, and the parasite can spread. To me the compulsion men get to chop her into pieces is just a part of her life cycle, its how tomie multiplies. I didn't really read some of the men killing her as it being their own decision, since it's stated pretty early own that her manipulation dips well into the realm of supernatural. The parasitic organism reading to me also explains why tomie may or may not cooperate with other tomies, depending on the situation.

While some interesting points, this video feels like a first or second draft and fails to bring a satisfying conclusion to many of the points brought up or even just the opening thesis of the title. Instead of operating in our God given purpose; attentively manifesting heaven on earth, this shows the opposite of that; a world that has been enslaved to serve the kingdom of darkness. Sin being the propellor of bondage, looping humanity in eternal torment, which is, separation from the true source of all things that stem from the character of God. If taken literally, true hell is being forced to live an eternity devoid of anything Good, only evil. Man, who is determined to serve himself/his flesh, feeds the parasite of pride which slowly eats away at him. His pride is like a charger plugging into itself, that isn't its purpose, therefore naturally leads to destruction then eternal death. The demonic knows that it can't feed off itself, and sees us as a battery that can power their own kingdom, which is presented pretty clearly with the mass of bodies in the shining city, which represents The Satan aka "Lucifer" (translates to the shining one), a fabrication of God's kingdom. Until man recognizes which kingdom he's serving, even a lukewarm mind will slowly fall into the pit inevitably, because carrying a cross is an upward battle -impossible at that without Jesus as stated in the Gospal message, therefore anyone not choosing a side will let gravity, or in this case pleasure, slide them down to their demise due to ignorance and the inability to control the flesh from doing as it wills. Curses can absolutely just affect an area.

I always thought it was about the fear of obsession. The spiral representing how someone gets sucked into their, likes and hobbies, like a whirlpool. The closer to the center you get the harder it is to excape it.

I think they could molt as they grow larger, and I honestly don’t think it’s that far oht for the universe. Some animals that molt can continue to do so and get larger and larger as the years go on, yet some of them can only do it until they get to a mature age. It would explain why some of them are so huge like the busses while others are the same size for their whole lives. It’s like growing a fingernail larger and larger for them.

someone put it way better in the comments below, but your definition of a curse is very western. the japanese definition of a curse is much, much different, and much more "ambiguous" like you said. uzumaki is an incredibly japanese story and includes a ton of japanese culture, mythology and sociology that gets lost in translation here in the west. its still an awesome story regardless of where in the world you read it from, but if you apply your own culture to another culture, some stuff is gonna come out twisted, pun intended.

Honestly, I don't think there's like, a cannon explanation for the events in Uzumaki, I'm pretty sure even Junji didn't think this deeply into how the spiral works. The true horror in Ito's work is the fear of things we can't comprehend - cosmic horror, so while it's fun to theorise, I feel like trying to find an explanation to all this is kind of missing the point.

Maybe the idea of the two being patient zero and one, being so "normal" overall is that if the spiral started with them, they are like the eye of the storm, the least "bend" in the form of the spiral as a starting point. They are though needed to complete the spiral, as it loops on itself. At least that is my interpretation.

I think different models of cars in the real world can definitely come off as masculine or feminine. But they didn't role with that logic, so who knows how they decided it.

Suichi and Kirie seem to genuinely love each other. They look out for each other and genuinely worry for one another they just aren't overly affectionate which to me makes sense. Both with general Japanese culture and my own lack of physically being an affectionate person. I think things like the hurricane targeting Kirie being seen as one of Suichi's "symptoms" of the curse would sort of prove that.

It feels like Tomie is men's perfect victim. They aren't to blame, SHE is. She's not sympathetic she's not mourned past the first story. She comes back so no harm is seen to be done. Tomie's behavior seems to become less a reflection of herself as a reflection of the men around her and the harm they cause. She's a woman whose only purpose is to be victimized and if you end up victimizing her it's never your fault.

As much as I loved this video, it's a little too Western in it's thinking. This manga is very much Japanese, and I don't mean that in who it was written by or where it's taking place. Everything from the relationship between the two main character down to the curse itself is influenced by Japanese culture. The curse doesn't act like how a Western curse acts, because it's not a Western curse, it's an Eastern one. Just look at the curses in Ju-on or Ringu and you'll notice the similarities. However, the idea that the curse is a radiation-like sickness can also be an inspiration, as it was for Godzilla. Overall, a great video, as I said. And maybe, now knowing this, you can revisit the manga with a more Japanese perspective and get something new out of it that you didn't get the first time. GL <3 <3 <3

The real curse, the author was trying to inflict on her wasn't the "immortality" and the fact that everyone will eventually end her life, but rather the fact that she is doomed to eternal isolation. Every human will eventually give in to the influence of pain and loneliness. And she will eventually figure out by herself, that the only way to end this cycle is to isolate herself for the rest of her eternal existence in order to get the closest to a "normal life", without regrowing another batch of Tomie's which are bound to occour, since she is bound to get dismembered every single time. And since she does not age, if the original source of her body was a replica of another Tomie (so not a turned one through self implementation of her cells) she is doomed to endless isolation, unless she manages to kill every single replica plus herself and manages to let the final Tomie become a turned version which will eventually die, but the risk she has to take in order to do that is very high, since a single slip up will lead to history repeating itself.

Yes, she did! Come on! 😂 She perverse, manipulative, greedy and even abusive whenever the chance arises. She's like an evil alien organism who wants nothing but to spread and infect everything. Of course I agree the femme fatale trope is negative and even dangerous but nothing can convince me this character is an innocent woman with terrible luck with relationships.

The detail that makes this feel more real is the mom not believing her kid until she sees it with her own eyes. Something every parent does, lol.

You have an interesting interpretation of Tomie, but i definitely disagree. I can see how it could be interpreted that she is the victim ultimately but the one thing she never does in an effort to survive is just leave. To stop talking and interacting with people, and sure that would suck, and a fifteen year old girl might have a hard time surviving but since she literally can't die i don't think that's a good enough reason. Sure it seems that Tomie sometimes doesn't actively cause her death but when things start getting bad and she should be able to tell since she has lived through this a bunch already, why not just leave? If she really wanted a different outcome she shouldn't just keep doing the same things over again and expecting something different. We all know the definition of insanity, doesn't make everyone else innocent, absolutely not, but neither is she.

Weird headcannon, the snails are the only people who escape. They rapidly evolved to counter the spiral's effects, they are too slow to get to the spiral hole and they start breeding to repopulate the town after the humans fall.

Ok in conclusion the creators did not care about world building it's just there so people can "relate" with a car's life being similar as yours

Is the center of the spiral the beginning, or the end? Is the point of beginning or ending the one on the outside? How can you tell? Who makes such a determination? Does Kurouzucho fall back out of the spiral at the same pace it falls in? Do the phenomena reverse there with no one left to see? Does it create people to settle there? Or is it found and simply draws people in to settle in what remains as it uncoils?

You have to stop! It's a trick the interest in the spiral is what makes the spiral. Like a self fulfilling prophecy this discourse and theorizing about it draws you deeper into the spiral and spreads it to others to add themselves to the spiral...oh no... It's already too late for all of us...
